HISTORY

The S.Me.P.P. (Società Mezzi Portuali Piombino) S.p.A., a joint-stock corporation, historically represents the first example of an Italian harbor business that utilizes both private and public capital. It was formed in the 1970’s by the historical consul of the Compagnia Portuale, Mr. Pedroni, and by the president of La Magona d' Italia, Prof. Fazzi, sponsored by the Ministry of the Mercantile Marine.

The company has been a reference model in the past years, during and after the changes that have taken place in the Italian port environment. For the past thirty years it has continued its activity uninterruptedly, thanks to the professionalism of its operators who are specialized in the various sectors of harbor logistics. It has attained significant results in terms of reliability, efficiency, productivity, investments, and employment. It upholds the utmost respect for and protection of the laws regarding safety and the environment, as well as in the application of employment contracts, considering human resources and the safeguarding of workers’ rights as a fundamental aspect for corporate growth. The company has always carried out an important role of stability in the port of Piombino, adding the Compagnia Portuali (40 %), Lucchini (10 %) and ARCELORMITTAL Piombino (50 %) to its financial group, and guaranteeing the quality of its services to all operating associates and other harbor operators with which it collaborates continuously.

COMPANY OBJECTIVE

Business operation in the Port of Piombino for the embarking and disembarking of cargo, including the organization of equipment and personnel.

Carries out all types of operations and activities regarding the movement, preparation and the arrangement of freight to load or unload, as well as the transportation of such freight by land on the behalf of third parties.

Capable of performing jobs of maintenance and repair, conceding the rental of its own facilities and other structures to businesses that carry out harbor operations.
