The S.Me.P.P. warehouse, in the port of Piombino, situated behind the operating docks, possesses a covered space of 2,500sq.m and an additional 3,000sq.m of enclosed external area. The proximity to the wharves permits fast and safe movement, guaranteeing the best possible service, even in terms of the length of a ship’s docking time. In the beginning of 2005, the organization underwent significant changes, in order to adapt to the standards requested by the ARCELOR MITTAL group, with the intention of continually improving the services offered and in the spirit of total cooperation. This spirit, along with the high level of professionalism of its operators, have always played a major role in the company and are the reasons why there have never been any claims for damages on the part of the final customer.

TECHNICAL OPERATING PROCEDURE

For the transfer of ARCELOR MITTAL LOGISTIC'S coils from the ship's hold to the loading on trucks for delivery to various customers;

  1. inspection of coils on opening the holds of ships, with photographic reports of possible product non conformity to inform the various authorities, before proceeding to unloading operations;

  1. unloading coils with harbor crane, to be arranged on specific authorized oversized vehicles, such as trucks and trailers for the transfer to our warehouse, situated in the immediate vicinity of the operating docks;

  1. unloading and warehousing with the aid of forklifts;

  1. reloading of coils on trucks sent by the ARCELOR MITTAL LOGISTIC for delivery to the various customers located throughout Italy;

  1. the entire cycle is carried out in absolute respect of ARCELOR LOGISTIC procedures, in regards to safety, quality and management;

  1. all the equipment used (hooks – trailers – nails – slings, etc.) is covered in VULKOLLAN, NYLON or other similar rubberized material, in order to protect the coils from direct contact with their steel structure;

  1. the firm recently ordered an ulterior forklift to be applied to a new piece of equipment for the loading of coils. Conceived in collaboration with CVS co. and the Local Sanitary Authority, the equipment meets the requirements of the ARCELOR MITTAL LOGISTIC and is approved and patented according to law. It is the first of its kind in Italy;

  1. the SLINGOFER MECCANICA S.p.A., company supplier of the “C” hooks utilized by our cranes, is applying a special covering in VULKOLLAN and NYLON on said hooks, which is certified according to law;

  1. the fork of the forklifts, employed in the transfer of coils, has been furnished with a special covering in VULKOLLAN and NYLON that runs its entire length in order to protect the coils.
